Butyl Glycol

Butyl Glycol (Butyl Cellosolve, BG) is a high-boiling glycol ether solvent. It possesses the unique ability to dissolve both hydrophilic (water-soluble) and hydrophobic (oil-soluble) substances, acting as a 'coupling agent' in formulations. In the paint industry, it is used as a coalescent for water-based paints, improving film formation and flow, and as a solvent for alkyd and epoxy resins. In household and industrial cleaning, it is valued for its excellent cleaning properties: it effectively removes grease, soot, ink, and resins, making it a key ingredient in universal cleaners and glass cleaners. Butyl Glycol has low volatility and is biodegradable. It is also used in printing, textiles, and as a component in defoamers.
